How to make a face mask
How to make a sock face mask
You will need:
- 1 large sock
- Measuring tape
Fold your sock in half, measure 10cm and cut.
Then measure 1cm from the edge you just cut, and 4cm wide, and cut (not all the way across).
Cut the whole length of the sock from the opposite side of your 4cm cut and then open. Fold down the topand bottom part and then iron to ensure the mask is flat and ready to be worn.
How to make a single layer fabric mask
You will need:
- 1 piece of fabric, size 38cm X 23cm-2 pieces of elastic. 23-25cm long
- Bobby pin
- Home sewing machine
Fold your piece of fabric in half with the pattern on the inside.
Sew around 3 lengths of the mask, leaving a 7cm gap on one side.
Cut the corners of your mask, fold it inside out, the pattern will now be on the outside.
Fold 2 of the edges down around 1-2cm and sew both sides, leaving a gap for the elastic to fit through.
Attach the bobby pin to the elastic and thread through each side. Sew the elastic together to make the earloops.
How to make a DHHS and WHO recommended 3 layered face mask
- Industrial sewing machine-3 pieces of fabric
- Inner layer: 100% cotton
- Filter: 50GSM Polypropylene
- Outer later: 100% Polyester
- 1 piece of elastic
Cut out the patter of the mask, this will depend on the size of your face.
Straight stitch all the fabric pieces together, unfold so there are 3 layers on each side of the mask.
Pleat the edges and sew the elastic on each side.
Sew around the outside of the mask to complete, we recommend an overlocking technique.
Trim any excess thread and your mask is ready to wear!
This mask is the most effective and safest to wear of the 3 that you’ve been shown.
